Nudge: give a teammate a push with one tap

Nudge: give a teammate a push with one tap

Every team competition has that one week where someone's steps stop showing up. Usually nothing is wrong — they forgot to open the app, their watch did not sync, or Tuesday just got away from them. Until now the only thing you could do about it was message them somewhere else and hope they saw it.

Nudge puts that message inside STEPathON, one tap away from the leaderboard.

Where to find it

On the competition team page, and on your Squad leaderboard, every teammate now has a small hand icon next to their name. Tap it and you get a short sheet with four prompts to choose from:

  • Sync your steps — for the teammate whose count has not moved in a while
  • Pick up the pace — for the one who is logging steps but could do more
  • Push through — for the one who is close to a target and does not know it
  • We need you today — for the day the team really is counting on them

Pick one, and your teammate gets a push notification that says "[Your name nudged you"] with that line underneath. That is the whole thing. No chat thread, no reply expected.

The guardrails

A nudge is only motivating if it is rare, so we built in a few limits on purpose:

  • One nudge per teammate per day. After you nudge someone, the hand icon for them stays disabled until tomorrow — you will see when it becomes available again.
  • It respects quiet hours. If your teammate has set quiet hours in their notification settings, your nudge waits and is delivered once they end. The app tells you when that happens.
  • It respects the Nudges toggle. Anyone can turn nudges off in their notification settings. If they have, the app tells you instead of sending anything.
  • Push only. A nudge is a notification, not a message log. If someone has push notifications disabled, it does not reach them, and we do not fall back to email.

How to try it

  1. Open STEPathON and go to your competition's Team page, or to Squad in the bottom navigation
  2. Tap the hand icon next to a teammate
  3. Choose one of the four prompts
  4. Check back tomorrow if you want to nudge them again

Nudge is rolling out gradually — if you do not see the hand icon yet, it is coming soon.
