Squad: a monthly step leaderboard with the people you choose

Steps Bank has quietly been one of our most-loved features for companies on STEPathON: no setup, no rules, no admin — you just show up in your organisation and your steps count toward a monthly leaderboard against your colleagues. The problem was that it only existed for people who happened to work somewhere with a STEPathON plan.
Squad is the same idea, minus the company.
What it does
Tap Create a Squad, give it a name, and you get an invite link immediately. Send it to your family group chat, your five-a-side team, or the three friends who keep promising to move more. Anyone who opens the link and is logged in joins instantly — no code to type, no approval to wait for.
- Every member's steps for the current calendar month are collapsed into one leaderboard, sorted highest to lowest
- The month resets automatically — your Squad is permanent, the competition is monthly
- Anyone can leave, and anyone can remove anyone else, so a leaked invite link is never a real problem
Why we built it this way
The whole point of Steps Bank was that it required nothing from anyone. We did not want Squad to feel like a smaller, sadder version of a company competition — with team sizes, start dates, and a rules screen. So it has none of that. A Squad is just a name and a list of people. If you can send a link, you can set one up.
How to try it
- Open STEPathON and go to Squad in the bottom navigation
- Tap Create a Squad and name it, or tap I have a code if a friend already invited you
- Share the invite link from the Squad screen
- Check back any time this month to see who is winning
Squad is rolling out gradually — if you do not see it yet, it is coming soon.
